Community rules

Keep it friendly and suitable for a general audience. No hate, harassment, threats, sexual exploitation, explicit sexual content, private personal information or impersonation. No spam, scams, promotional links or reposting the same joke. Post only material you have permission to share.

Report a profile photo, joke or comment from its options menu. Block an account to hide its content and stop interactions between your accounts. Reporting hides the item from your feed. Five qualifying reports from different established readers temporarily hide content for moderator review; reports alone do not permanently delete it. Accounts created less than 48 hours ago cannot trigger this automatic hold.

Moderators may remove content and suspend abusive accounts. If one of your posts is held or removed, open Profile → Settings → Your posts & appeals to request review. We aim to review safety reports within 24 hours; urgent threats should also be raised with the appropriate emergency service.

Terms of use & EULA

Puntrest.com is an 18+ service. You must be at least 18 to use it or create an account. Registration requires an affirmative age declaration; existing accounts must confirm before posting, commenting or following. This declaration is not identity verification. The friendly-content rules still apply: an 18+ audience does not permit explicit, exploitative or otherwise prohibited content.

These terms govern the Puntrest website and service. Puntrest is free to use and currently has no paid subscriptions or in-app purchases. Account creation requires your agreement to these terms and the community rules; reading the privacy notice is separate from consent to optional features. You are responsible for keeping your password and recovery code private and for activity you authorise. Do not bypass safety controls, automate spam, impersonate people, scrape personal data or interfere with the service.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content that breaches the rules may be restricted or removed, and accounts may be suspended. Automated holds are provisional; you can request human review in Settings → Your posts & appeals or by email. Reporting in good faith is welcome; coordinated false reports are abuse.

You retain your rights in your contributions. You grant Puntrest a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, format and display your content to operate the service, and to enable sharing through its features. This does not transfer ownership. The licence ends when content is deleted, except for limited backup retention, legal requirements and copies already independently shared by others. Post only material you own or have permission to use. Do not upload confidential information or photos of others without permission.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the service for lawful purposes. Puntrest branding and software remain the rights of their respective owners. Access may be restricted for breaches, security or legal reasons, with review available through support. You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time.

The service is provided with reasonable care. It may change or be interrupted; user contributions are not endorsed by Puntrest. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for unforeseeable losses or losses arising from business use. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or limits mandatory consumer or privacy rights. Your local mandatory consumer protections continue to apply.

Material changes will be communicated through the service before applying where required; continued use does not waive rights that law protects. Contact support about disputes so we can attempt resolution. No compulsory arbitration or waiver of statutory rights is imposed by these terms.

Apple application licence

If Puntrest is distributed through Apple’s App Store without a custom licence, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement governs the app software licence. These service terms and community rules additionally govern Puntrest accounts and contributions. Puntrest is responsible for its service, support and moderation. Apple is not the provider of the Puntrest community service. This website does not itself install an App Store app.

Privacy

This notice covers the Puntrest.com service. For privacy and operator enquiries contact [email protected]. We record the time you affirm you are 18 or over, alongside your acceptance of the terms. We do not collect your date of birth or identity documents for this declaration. If you believe someone under 18 is using the service, report the account or contact support.

We store your username, password hash, optional display name, bio and profile photo, posts, comments, likes, dislikes, saves, creator/topic follows, blocks, activity and reading history. These support your account, unseen-joke feed and social features. Recommendations use recent likes, dislikes, joke formats and followed topics. You can turn personalisation off or reset learned preferences in Settings → Your feed. Passwords are hashed; recovery codes are stored only as hashes. Session and guest cookies keep you signed in and remember your reading history. Browser alerts are off by default and require your permission. While the site is open, the app periodically checks your private activity inbox; closed-app push notifications are not connected. Temporary hashed network and username identifiers limit repeated authentication attempts.

Profile photo originals are processed on your device: you choose the crop, and the app sends a compressed 512-pixel JPEG. The server validates and re-encodes this into a 256-pixel WebP, stripping original metadata. Originals are not uploaded by this editor. One active photo per account is retained. Replacing or removing it deletes the previous file. Joke owners can remove comments on their jokes. Links, repeated comments and rapid posting are restricted.

If you choose Apple or Google sign-in, we store its provider identifier to connect it to your account. Apple revocation tokens are encrypted on the server so we can revoke access when you delete your account; provider email addresses are not used to merge profiles. Apple account-change notifications can disconnect that sign-in and revoke sessions. Your profile, published jokes and comments are public within this app. Moderators can access reports, appeals and support messages. This preview has no advertising, third-party analytics or external moderation service.

Profile → Settings → Delete account removes your profile and activity and invalidates sign-ins and recovery codes. Empty anonymous records may remain where the retired ledger requires structural references; they contain no posts, credentials or profile information. Private daily backups are stored on the hosting Mac. They are not part of the live site. Deleted data can remain in older backups for up to 30 days. The daily backup job permanently removes dated backups older than 30 days when it runs. If a backup is restored, deletion requests must be reapplied before reopening access.

Purposes and legal bases

Account credentials, posts and requested social features are processed to provide the service you request (performance of our agreement). Security, abuse prevention, report handling and service reliability rely on legitimate interests in protecting users and operating the service, balanced against your rights. Legal duties may require specific preservation or disclosure. Optional browser notification permission can be withdrawn in your browser. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Private messages

Direct messages are text-only, one-to-one conversations for signed-in adults. We store sender and recipient identifiers, message text, timestamps and read positions to deliver conversations and unread counts. Messages are not public; the two participants can access their conversation. They are protected in transit by HTTPS but are not end-to-end encrypted. Authorised server administration can access stored data when necessary for security or legal duties. Reporting a received message shares that specific message and the reason with moderators; the moderation queue does not expose the rest of the conversation.

Either participant can block the other to stop delivery and hide access to the conversation until unblocked. Blocking does not delete the history. Messages have length, duplicate, link and rate limits. Deleting either participant’s account removes their conversations from the active service, including the other participant’s copy; older backups expire under the retention policy below. Report threats, spam or harassment from the received message, or contact support.

Hosting and recipients

The application and database are hosted on a Mac controlled by the operator. Cloudflare provides DNS, HTTPS delivery and the tunnel to that Mac and processes network information, including IP addresses. Apple or Google process authentication information when you choose their sign-in. These providers may process information internationally under their own terms and applicable transfer safeguards. We do not import provider email addresses, names or profile pictures into your Puntrest profile. Authorised moderation access is limited to operating and protecting the service; information may also be disclosed where law requires it.

Retention and cookies

Account data and reading preferences remain while needed to provide your account until you delete them or your account. Activity inboxes are capped at 500 entries per account; recommendation signals use recent activity. Reports, support requests and moderation records are kept for investigation, appeals and preventing repeated abuse, with the need for retention assessed against those purposes. Security rate-limit records are short-lived and cleaned periodically. Server and provider security logs may have separate retention under their operating policies.

Essential first-party session cookies last up to 30 days and guest-reading cookies up to one year. They support sign-in, security and remembering read jokes; a separate short-lived browser cookie binds external sign-in callbacks. No advertising or analytics cookies are used. Blocking cookies can prevent sign-in or remembering your reading history. Browser notification preferences can be changed in Settings and browser permissions. Recommendation settings are available in Settings → Your feed; automated ranking and provisional report holds do not decide legal or similarly significant eligibility, and moderation can be appealed.

Your privacy rights

Contact [email protected] to request access, a copy, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your information where applicable. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, including personalisation. You can disable personalised recommendations in Settings → Your feed. We may need proportionate verification to prevent disclosure to someone else; do not email passwords or recovery codes. We normally respond to privacy requests within one month, subject to lawful extensions. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.

Copyright & rights complaints

Email [email protected] with the joke/profile URL or identifier, identification of your protected work, your authority to act, the alleged infringement and a reply contact. Please provide an accurate, good-faith explanation; do not send unnecessary identity documents. We will assess the report, may restrict the material while investigating, and may ask the poster for a response. Repeat infringement can lead to account suspension. This process does not replace statutory notice requirements in a jurisdiction where they apply.

Notifications and widgets

If you enable iPhone notifications, we store your device notification token, a random installation identifier and delivery state linked to your account. Apple processes notification delivery. Push alerts contain a generic activity or new-message notice, without private message text. You can turn alerts off in Puntrest Settings or iPhone Settings. Device registrations expire after 30 days without reconnecting the app and are removed when you sign out on that device or delete your account.

Widgets use an account-bound, read-only credential shared only between Puntrest and its widget. They cache up to 30 public jokes for no more than 30 minutes. Blocks, reports and content visibility are checked when the widget refreshes. Signing out clears the local widget credential and cache. No private conversations are stored in widgets.

Account deletion

In the app or website, open Profile → Settings → Delete account. Verify with your password or connected sign-in, type DELETE and confirm. This removes your profile, jokes, comments, direct-message conversations, follows, likes, saves, reading history and sign-in credentials from the active service. Connected Apple authorisation is revoked before deletion completes. It does not delete your Apple or Google account. Limited structural anonymous references, older backups and data lawfully required to resolve claims may remain as described above. Copies already shared outside Puntrest are outside our control.

If you cannot access your account, email [email protected] to request help with deletion and ownership verification. No payment or subscription cancellation is required.

Forgot your password? Choose Forgot password on the sign-in screen and use your private recovery code. Generate a code in Settings if you do not have one. Recovery codes are shown only once; a replacement invalidates the previous code. Without a password or recovery code, contact support. Email-based resets are not connected in this preview.
